MADRID, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Police in Catalonia (Mossos d'Esquadra) detained two people in an operation against a suspected jihadist recruitment cell in the early hours of Monday, Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido said.
The operation took place in Sant Pere de Ribes, about 30 km south of Barcelona.
"Two people were detained for supporting DAESH (Islamic State) in an operation carried out by the Mossos in Barcelona," Zoido tweeted.
Police sources have confirmed that the operation began at 4:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) and is still going on, possibly with more captures.
The operation on Monday brings the total number of suspected jihadists detained in Spain since the beginning of 2015 to 256.
