DALLAS, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Western holidays got a magical Eastern touch with a Chinese lantern show opening here Tuesday night, bringing in a world of light and magic to the locals.
A part of the "Holiday Wonder" extravaganza in the Texan city, the lantern show consists 23 giant traditional Chinese lanterns that present an array of dazzling spectacles like winter landscapes, floating swans and playful polar bears and penguins.
Visitors are transported to an enchanting corridor of snowflakes where a 15-meter-high lantern, designed as a Christmas tree, acts as a harbinger of Christmas and yuletide celebrations.
All the displays have been hand-made by Chinese artisans with specialized skills in traditional lantern-making.
In addition to the magical light displays, visitors can also enjoy interactive attractions, performances and food from around the world.
Kun Lu, president of Creative Arts & Attractions who sponsored the lantern show, hoped that the display, being part of the familiar Western holiday narrative, would attract more visitors.
"It is also a good approach to show Chinese traditional arts to the locals," Lu said.
The lantern display will be on till Jan. 7, 2018. Lu said it was a good opportunity to celebrate the holiday season from Thanksgiving to the New Year.
