TOKYO, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday tracking overnight gains made on U.S and European bourses.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 217.69 points, or 0.97 percent, from Thursday to 22,568.81.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 11.57 points, or 0.66 percent, to 1,773.28.
Oil and coal product, electric appliance and metal product-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
