DA NANG, Vietnam, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- China will fully support Papua New Guinea (PNG) in hosting the 2018 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his PNG counterpart Rimbink Pato on Saturday.
Wang met with Pato at the latter's invitation in Vietnam's central city of Da Nang, where the 25th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting is hosted.
China-PNG relations have started a new chapter of fast development in recent years, and China is willing to further promote the bilateral ties in joint efforts with PNG, said Wang.
China welcomes PNG's cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and participation in the 2018 China International Import Expo, he said.
Wang expressed the hope that PNG will adhere to the one China policy. He also briefed his PNG counterpart on the achievement and significance of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
For his part, Pato congratulated Chinese President Xi Jinping on his re-election as general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.
PNG is willing to be a sincere friend of China, he said, reiterating PNG's firm adherence to the one China policy and hope to strengthen cooperation with China in all fields.
He added that his country is confident of successfully hosting the APEC meetings with the support of China and the international community and pushing forward regional integration.
