JAKARTA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia was picked to host two series of international premier motocross championship MXGP next year, making Indonesia the only Asian country to host the prestigious motorsport event, head of Indonesian Motorsports Association (IMI) Sadikin Aksa said here on Friday.
"This is the success of Indonesian government, IMI and national automotive communities in the negotiation with FIM, the championship promoters and related parties in MXGP," Sadikin said.
The two MXGP series slated to be held in Indonesia were in July 1 and 8 next year in Pangkal Pinang, Bangka Belitung province and in Semarang, Central Java province respectively, he added.
Sadikin said that Indonesia would use the opportunities to hold the MXGP championship to maximize the promotion of national tourism, which now set as the nation's leading industry.
Indonesia previously hosted an MXGP series in Pangkal Pinang in March this year.
