TIRANA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Albanian authorities are working on a new strategy to boost fight against illegal trafficking of human beings, National Coordinator of Anti-Trafficking Rovena Voda said Friday.

Voda said that the government had a clear strategy in place, which, as of 2014, prioritized the fight against this phenomenon and provided concrete results.

"The number of convicts for trafficking human beings has increased 20-fold compared to 2013," Voda told the Albanian Telegraphic Agency.

She noted that the anti-trafficking strategy would continue to remain a priority of the government, adding that the increased budget on a year-on-year basis and intensive awareness campaign were a testament to government's stand against this phenomenon.

According to the official, the new strategic plan in the design stage focuses on assistance and reintegration of trafficking victims through social policies of economic aid, employment and education.

Authorities also plan to expand institutions involved in anti-trafficking.

She further informed that Albanian ministry of interior had requested changes to the Albanian Criminal Procedure Code and the Criminal Code in order to toughen its stance against trafficking.
