ZHUHAI, China, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Julia Goerges of Germany snatched the last semifinal place with a 6-2, 7-6(4) win over top seed Kristina Mladenovic at the Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai on Friday.
No. 7 seed Goerges, who beat Magdalena Rybarikova at her opening match, topped their group with a 2-0 record to join the final four.
At the semifinals, Goerges will play against CoCo Vandeweghe of the United States, while the other tie will see Ashleigh Barty of Australia clash with Latovia's Anastasija Sevastova.
Goerges arrived in Zhuhai having won the last event she contested, the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, and now extended her winning streak to seven matches.
World No. 10 Mladenovic, by contrast, suffered a 12-match losing run to end her season. Next week she will be replaced by Vandeweghe in the top ten ranking.
The Frenchwoman had a rather poor serving throughout the match as she committed nine double faults and could only win 20 percent of the points on her second serve.
