BEIRUT, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's Speaker Nabih Berri requested Thursday that acting United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Philippe Lazzarini refer a report to UN chief Antonio Guterres regarding Israel's intentions to build a wall along Lebanon's southern border.
Berri raised the issue Wednesday during his weekly meeting with lawmakers, sounding the alarm over the alleged construction plans.
Referring to a secret report, the speaker said that Israel intended to build a wall from Ras al-Naqoura to Alma Shaab, and from Adaisseh to Kfar Kila.
Berri discussed the issue with Lazzarini Thursday, and also spoke of Israeli violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
"Berri asked Lazzarini to include these new Israeli violations in the report that he will refer to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and to bring it up with higher-up relevant parties at the UN before the end of the month," a statement from Berri's office said.
