MACAO, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chief Executive of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Chui Sai On welcomed the decision by UNESCO to pick Macao SAR as a City of Gastronomy to join its Creative Cities Network, a statement by the Government Spokesperson Office said Wednesday.
Chui expressed his gratitude to UNESCO for such a designation. He also thanked the central government for its support during Macao SAR's application, as well as the joint efforts by the local tourism sector and catering industry to achieve such a result.
Macao SAR has paid close attention to the development of its gastronomy, which is a mixture of Chinese and Western gastronomy and has been formed over the course of more than 400 years, he said.
The designation will help Macao SAR's goal to become a world center of tourism and leisure, he added.
