KHARTOUM, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Tuesday urged the Arab Parliament to play a key role in combating challenges facing regional countries, including preservation of national security against extremism and terrorism.
Al-Bashir said so while addressing the opening sitting of the second session of the Arab Parliament here, saying that the parliament should have a role "towards what is happening in the Arab arena of differences, and in what the Arab arena needs of consensus and agreement to overcome challenges facing it."
He added that the challenges include preservation of the Arab national security, coming together to face threats and dangers and protection of the Arab region against extremism and terrorism.
Meanwhile, al-Bashir urged the Arab Parliament to observe national and country action to implement the sustainable development goals, encourage investment and inter-trade in Arab countries, and reactivate the Arab inter-trade and common Arab market.
He reiterated his country's commitment to work with the Arab countries to achieve Arab economic integration.
"We extend our hands for cooperation with our Arab nation to serve the common good, support the institutions of joint Arab action and reactivate our role in these institutions to achieve maximum goals. We call on these institutions to maximize their efforts to achieve the objectives for which they were established," said al-Bashir.
The Arab Parliament on Tuesday convened its second session in the Sudanese capital, chaired by Speaker of the Arab Parliament Mishaal bin Fahm al Salami.
Many issues are scheduled relating to the threats facing the Arab region in addition to women, youths, education, health and social development issues.
