BEIJING, Oct.28 (Xinhuanet) -- China's achievements in poverty reduction are unprecedented, said Nicholas Rosellini, UN Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative in China.

These achievements not only can benefit China, but also bring experience to the world and make great contributions to global poverty reduction efforts, he said during a recent exclusive interview with Xinhuanet.

On the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the first of 17 Sustainable Development Goals is to eradicate poverty in all forms everywhere.

Without China's contribution, there is no way to achieve the common goal of reducing global poverty as scheduled, Rosellini stressed.

He believed China can achieve the target of comprehensively eliminating rural poverty by 2020.

China's overall poverty alleviation is going through a critical phase, he said, noting the most difficult part of finishing the "last mile" is to ensure the poverty-alleviation projects could make more practical contributions to remote communities and the vulnerable groups such as the disabled and the elderly.

He believed that the Chinese government could get through the 'last mile' of poverty reduction by actively implementing the targeted poverty alleviation.

The UN will also provide systematic support for China's poverty reduction working, he promised.

Meanwhile, he lauded China's contributions to world peace. China contributes more troops to United Nations peacekeeping missions than any other permanent member of the UN Security Council, he said.

China has become the second-largest country to share UN peacekeeping costs.

China has undertaken multiple peacekeeping operations and effectively safeguarded world peace.

China’s role is very significant, he reiterated, hoping China will continue to support UN peacekeeping operations to safeguard world peace and stability.
