MACAO, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The total value of merchandise export of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) grew 24.6 percent in September year-on-year, and the total merchandise import went up 16.5 percent, the SAR's statistics department said on Friday.
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for September amounted to 1.02 billion patacas. The value of re-exports (835 million patacas) jumped 41.9 percent, with that of diamond and diamond jewellery surging 288.5 percent. Meanwhile, the value of domestic exports (188 million patacas) slid 19.3 percent, with that of tobacco falling 31.6 percent.
Total merchandise import increased 16.5 percent year-on-year to 7.23 billion patacas, of which imports of motor cars and motorcycles and construction materials expanded 72.8 percent and 41.7 percent respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in September amounted to 6.20 billion patacas.
The statistics also showed that in the third quarter this year, merchandise export (2.94 billion patacas) and merchandise import (19.56 billion patacas) grew by 12.1 percent and 5.8 percent respectively year-on-year, resulting in a trade deficit of 16.62 billion patacas.
From January to September 2017, merchandise export rose 10.7 percent year-on-year to 8.56 billion patacas, and merchandise import added 5.3 percent year-on-year to 54.47 billion patacas.
