KIGALI, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan nationals living in Rwanda on Thursday participated in Kenya's repeat presidential elections.
The Kenyan High Commission in Rwanda, located in Rwandan capital Kigali, where a polling station had been established was open to voters as early as 5 a.m. local time, according to presiding officers.
Inside the high commission there were two polling stations which had a total of 875 registered voters.
"People are turning in low numbers to vote. I am sure towards closing time people will have turned out in expected numbers," Nuzhat A. Mwinzangu, presiding officer, told Xinhua.
She called on Kenyans in Rwanda who are registered voters to come and exercise their constitutional right.
The polling station will close at 4:30 p.m. and the counting of ballots will begin straightway before the results are sent to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in Nairobi, Kenya.
"The reason for my coming here is to fulfill my constitutional right to choose the leader I want. There has been a lot of political tensions and anxiety in Kenya, now it's time to sort it out and move forward," said Evans Kinaro, a Kenyan who voted.
"We all yearn for a peaceful nation. We don't want chaos and violence anymore in our motherland," said Kinaro.
Kenyan voters began voting on Thursday in the repeat election where Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his running mate, William Ruto, are seeking to recapture the presidency after the withdrawal of the main opposition leader Raila Odinga from the race, citing lack of transparency in the process.
Eight candidates are listed on the ballot, including Odinga and seven others.
