TOKYO, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged higher Wednesday morning as Wall Street's solid lead overnight set a positive tone here, with investors also chasing large cap issues ahead of earnings season later this month.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 18.44 points, or 0.09 percent, from Tuesday to 21,354.56.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 0.45 point, or 0.03 percent, to 1,723.82.
Rubber product, land transportation and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
