WINDHOEK, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Domestic football action in Namibia is set to make a return in the country, with the official launch of the Namibia Premier League (NPL) 2017/2018 Season on Wednesday in Windhoek.
The local league had been inactive since the completion of the season in May 2016, and was shelved due to financial and sponsorship difficulties.
The NPL League administrator, Tovey Hoebeb on Tuesday told Xinhua that the league season is set to feature 16 premier league teams and the first taste of action will take on Friday, Oct. 20, when Orlando Pirates and African Stars lock horns in Windhoek at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
The other 14 teams will clash over the weekend from Oct. 21 to 22 in different parts of the country.
The NPL was founded in 1990 as a non-profit making organization governed by a constitution. In 1992 the NPL became an affiliate of the Namibia Football Association.
