SYDNEY, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Human remains have been found in a crocodile believed to have killed an elderly woman in the far north of Australia's Queensland state.
A walking stick and other items belonging to Anne Cameron, 79, were first discovered at a creek south of the Port Douglas area last week, local media reported.
She was last seen two days before the discovery near an aged care facility. The woman reportedly became disorientated on a walk and headed into thick vegetation.
On Tuesday, wildlife staff netted a 4.3-meter long crocodile near the creek. The reptile was euthanized and examined in Cairns.
"Wildlife officers are confident the crocodile is the target animal due to its behaviour and size," Queensland Environment Minister Steven Miles said in a media statement.
"It is important residents and visitors to Port Douglas continue to exercise Crocwise behaviour at all times."
"We have permanent crocodile warning signs in place to remind people this is croc country. The signs are there to keep you safe so please acknowledge them."
Crocodiles in the far north of Queensland have killed at least two other people in the past 18 months, according to local reports.
