South African stocks close the week positive

JOHANNESBURG, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed the week positive on Friday continuing its long winning streak, as South African rand hedges dropped.

The all share index closed 0.22 percent firmer at 57,876.60 points and the blue-chip top 40 rised 0.19 percent. Platinums advanced 0.9 percent, the gold index tumbled 0.45 percent, resources added 0.67 percent and industrials lost 0.07 percent. Food and drug retailers lost 0.11 percent, banks recouped 0.33 percent.

Aspen Pharmacare was the best performer among blue-chip companies, adding 0.72 percent to R321.5. Rand-hedge British American Tobacco dropped 1.4 percent to R864.32 and Richemont 1.08 percent to R123.74. Kumba Iron Ore was up 7.74 percent to 253.9, Assore 2.22 percent to R289.29 and Exxaro Resources 2.59 percent to R144.35. Impala Platinum rose 2.81 percent to R31.78.

Among the industrial shares, Naspers traded flat at R3,200.

Barclays Africa was 0.65 percent higher at R147.5 and Standard Bank gained 2.07 percent to R172. FirstRand was 1.89 percent lower at R53.35. Harmony lost 2.7 percent to R24.15. Enditem
