SINGAPORE, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The 23rd ASEAN transport ministers meeting and associated meetings with ASEAN dialogue partners China, Japan and South Korea opened here Thursday.

The two-day meetings will discuss regional cooperation and initiatives in air, maritime and land transport as well as transport facilitation, which will bolster connectivity in the region, according to Singapore's Ministry of Transport.

The ministry said participating transport ministers will ink several documents on cooperation relating to aircraft accident and incident investigation.

Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean said requirements for cross-border bus transport services within ASEAN will be simplified, and thousands of buses will enjoy facilitated entry and transit to other ASEAN member states.

"This sends a strong signal to the international community that ASEAN is committed to foster open, integrated economies and will further liberalise trade for the benefit of all our people," he added.

China's Vice Minister of Transport Dai Dongchang participated in the event. He visited the Kaki Bukit MRT station, which was built by China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited Singapore Branch, after the opening ceremony of the meetings.
