BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese police have detained about 150 suspects nationwide for scalping train tickets during the eight-day national holiday, according to a statement from railway police Monday.

Railway police dispatched around 1,740 officers to major railway stations, especially those near popular tourist destinations, in a special operation aimed at minimizing the illegal resale of tickets, said a statement.

Police also tightened security onboard trains and at stations, mobilizing about 75,000 volunteers and increasing patrols of armed officers and police dogs, the statement added.

About 120 suspects were detained for robbery, theft and fraud onboard trains. Police also reported about 490,000 cases of carrying hazardous objects.

Approximately 132 million train trips were made across the country between Sept. 28 and Oct. 8, a year-on-year growth of 11.6 percent.
