MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- As many as 30 militants loyal to the Taliban group were killed, following heavy airstrikes in northern Afghanistan's Faryab province on Sunday, an official said Monday.
The incident happened late on Sunday night, when government airforce targeted insurgents' hideouts in Qaisar district of the province, leaving 30 fighters dead and a quantity of arms and ammunition destroyed, said Nasratullah Jamshidi, the spokesman of 209 Shaheen Army corps based in the northern region.
Taliban militants are yet to make comments on the report.
