QALA-E-NAW, Afghanistan, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Militants loyal to the Taliban burned houses and killed several villagers after seizing control of villages in Badghis, western Afghanistan, local officials said Saturday.
Taliban insurgents killed several villagers and burned houses in some villages of restive Abkamari district over the past day, district chief Mirza Ali told Xinhua.
"Now, militants are using houses as trenches after many villagers took their way to the district's center where they have no access to shelter or food-stuff," he added.
Meantime, Gen. Mohammad Rauf Taj, the provincial police chief, has assured to soon launch a operation to suppress the militants in the remote district.
More than 250,000 Afghans have fled their homes amid conflict in the country so far this year.
