S. African stocks rally for fifth consecutive day

JOHANNESBURG, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) stretched its gains into the fifth straight consecutive day on Thursday, with the all share moving into record highs.

At close of session on Thursday, the all share was up 0.44 percent to 56,999.79 points, with the top 40 advancing to record highs of 50,786.4 points. The resources index also gained 0.46 percent to 36,553.37 points, while the financial index was 0.21 percent higher at 41,526.57 points.

Vodacom was up 2.17 percent to R154.65 on the top 40, rallied following drop in claims that it abused its dominance to secured an exclusive contract to provide mobile services to the government. MTN Group lost 1.68 percent to R121.6.

Anglo American Platinum was up 2.77 percent to R360.49 and Exxaro 2.37 percent to R137.45. Naspers was 1.34 percent stronger at R3136.5.

Steinhoff advanced 0.02 percent to settle at R59.31 and British American Tobacco traded 1.5 percent softer at R841. Imperial Holdings was up 1.8 percent to R196.58. Enditem
