LAS VEGAS, the United States, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump traveled to Las Vegas on Wednesday to show their support for the victims of Sunday's shooting massacre.
"I will be landing in Las Vegas shortly to pay my respects with @FLOTUS Melania. Everyone remains in our thoughts and prayers," Trump tweeted before landing.
Trump was scheduled to meet with patients and doctors at a hospital treating the more than 500 people injured in Sunday's shooting.
Later, the White House said, he was to meet with "civilian heroes" and first responders who were at the scene when Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old gambler and real estate investor, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel into the crowd at an outdoor music festival.
As the president departed the White House, Trump told reporters, "It's a very sad thing. We are going to pay our respects and to see the police who have done really a fantastic job in a very short time."
"It's a very, very sad day for me, personally," the president said.
At least 59 people were killed and more than 500 others injured in a mass shooting at a concert held in Las Vegas, Nevada, making the Sunday night's tragedy the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. Enditem
