KIEV, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian forces in September incurred their lowest monthly casualties since the start of the conflict in the country's eastern regions amid a new ceasefire, local media reported Tuesday.

According to the online media outlet Censor.net, five Ukrainian army soldiers fall victims to the clashes with pro-independence insurgents last month, while one serviceman was killed after stepping on a landmine.

Besides, two State Border Service officers were killed as a result of the explosion of an unidentified explosive device in the conflict-hit Lugansk region.

Apart from the fatalities, 31 Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in the conflict area in September.

In August, a total of 13 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 75 others injured in the violence.

The conflict in eastern Ukraine has been underway since April 2014, claiming the lives of more than 10,000 people, including civilians and combatants on both sides.

On the midnight of Aug. 25, the confronting sides declared the ceasefire to ensure children's security ahead of the new school year, which started on Sept. 1.
