GAZA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said Tuesday that his country will keep backing and sponsoring the internal Palestinian reconciliation until it achieves its goals.
President Sisi's remarks were made in a recorded video speech, monitored in a screen during a meeting held between Gen. Khaled Fawzi, chief of Egypt Security Intelligence and Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah in Gaza City.
"The whole world is observing and watching the efforts of achieving reconciliation between the leaders of the Palestinian people," said Sisi in the recorded speech.
Hamdallah, who pays a first visit with his team to the Gaza Strip since October 2014, has earlier chaired the first weekly cabinet meeting in Gaza City before Hamas movement handed over his various ministers to Hamdallah government.
"The experience of the former years had proved that everyone is a looser due to division and no one gets benefits out it except the powers of extremism and influence other Palestinian factions with their extreme ideologies," said Sisi.
He went on saying that he decided to send gen. Fawzi to the Palestinian territories, Ramallah and Gaza "to express Egypt's interest in providing all types of support to finalize the mission of unity that everyone is looking for achieving."
Meanwhile, Sisi said "there is an opportunity for achieving peace in the region, but with a unified effort to show the faithful Palestinian attitude towards making just and comprehensive peace in the region and gain their legitimate rights."
Before meeting with Hamdallah and Hamas leaders in Gaza city, Fawzi arrived earlier on Tuesday in the West Bank city of Ramallah and held talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Fawzi said that Egypt will carry on with its efforts until all aspects and elements of internal Palestinian division ends, according to the official Palestinian state-run news agency (WAFA).
He clarified that Egypt is going to invite leaders of Hamas and Fatah to Cairo next week to continue their discussions on achieving full reconciliation and end full unity.
The meeting will pave the road for a comprehensive meeting that will include all the Palestinian factions and political powers, according to Fawzi.
