HO CHI MINH CITY, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday started implementing a program which allows buyers of fowl meat and eggs to easily trace their origin, said the municipal Department of Industry and Trade.
Codes in the form of stamps, which contain such information as fowl strain, feed, vaccination, name of farm and date of slaughtering, are placed on the product's packages.
At 1,750 markets, shops and retail outlets, buyers can use a code reading application on their mobile phones to read the information.
Traceable chickens, ducks and their eggs are mainly sourced from farms in the five southern provinces of Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Long An and Tien Giang.
At present, over 360 poultry farms, which supply Ho Chi Minh City with some 150,000 chickens and two million eggs a day, as well as dozens of slaughterhouses and packing facilities are participating in the program, said the department.
Earlier, the city applied similar programs to trace origin of pork and vegetables.
