DHAKA, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh and Myanmar Monday agreed to establish a joint working group soon to repatriate Rohingya people who have crossed into Bangladesh.

The agreement came during a meeting between Bangladeshi Minister for Foreign Affairs Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and a Myanmar delegation led by Myanmar's Minister of the State Counselor's Office U Kyaw Tint Swe on Monday.

U Kyaw Tint Swe, representative of Myanmar's State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, arrived here earlier in the day on a visit to discuss the Rohingya issue with the Bangladeshi side.

After the meeting which lasted for more than one hour, the Bangladeshi foreign minister briefed journalists on Myanmar's repatriation proposal.

"The meeting was held in a peaceful manner. Myanmar has proposed us to take back the Rohingyas. We've agreed on forming a joint working group to oversee the repatriation process," said Ali after the meeting at state guest house Padma.

The Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army extremist terrorists launched attacks on police outposts in Rakhine on Aug. 25, displacing residents from a number of areas in Maungtaw district to border areas with Bangladesh.

This is the first visit of a Myanmar minister to Bangladesh since the fresh wave of violence erupted in Rakhine state.

Bangladeshi Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Sunday reiterated Bangladeshi government's stance of zero-tolerance to terrorism, saying they will never allow its soil to be used as the launching ground for any kind of terrorist activities.

Bangladeshi ruling party Bangladesh Awami League party General Secretary Obaidul Quader Monday expressed the hope that the Rohingya issue would end through Swe's visit.
