China to see new high of daily railway passengers

BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- China Railway Corporation forecast that a new record for daily railway passengers will be set on Sunday, with some 15 million tickets expected to be sold.

The company added 569 extra trains around the country to meet the demand on the first day of an eight-day holiday for the National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The previous high was recorded on Oct. 1, 2016, with 14.42 million passengers choosing to travel by train.

On Saturday, the railway network transported 12.52 million people around the country, up 9.8 percent year on year.

The company has forecast that a total of 130 million tickets would be sold in the 11 days following Sept. 28.
