LAGOS, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The police in Nigeria confirmed on Thursday the abduction of Emmanuel Adeniyi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department in northwest Zamfara State by unknown gunmen.
State Commissioner of Police in charge, Shaba Alkali, told reporters in Gusua, the state capital, that Adeniyi was kidnapped while driving along Dandume/Birnin Gwari road in Kaduna State on his way to Gusau.
Alkali added that though the abduction of the ACP occurred within Kaduna State, he was still waiting for authentic details concerning the matter.
Some weeks back, gunmen attacked police stations at Keta in Tsafe area of the state, kidnapping three officers.
Abduction is common in Nigeria. The abduction of foreigners and high profile individuals in the country has been on the increase recently.
