KIEV, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Explosions and an ensuing fire at a major military warehouse in Ukraine's central Vinnytsya region, speculated to have been caused by an unmanned aerial vehicle in an act of "sabotage", were under control, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said on Thursday.

"The ammunition is still smoldering, while explosions have practically ceased. In general, the situation is under control," Groysman wrote on Facebook.

The prime minister, who arrived in Vinnytsya city, said "external factors" could have caused the blasts.

He also said mine clearance experts were preparing to start a clean-up operation in a 5-km-radius area around the warehouse while some evacuated people were returning to their homes.

Late Tuesday, a series of blasts ripped through the arms storage facility near the town of Kalynivka, some 250 km southwest of capital Kiev, injuring two people and prompting the evacuation of 30,000 others.

The Ukrainian government has allocated 3.8 million U.S. dollars for relief efforts.

Ukrainian army spokesman Sergiy Misyura said on Wednesday that an act of sabotage was likely behind the explosions.

The depot was likely to have been attacked by an unmanned aerial vehicle, plotted and carried out by a group of people, the spokesman said, without giving further details.
