ULAN BATOR, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Mongolian President Khaltmaa Battulga on Thursday sent an official letter to the country's parliament, the State Great Khural, for approval of Khurelsukh Ukhnaa as the country's new prime minister.

In the letter, he asked the parliament to "urgently solve the issue related to Khurelsukh's appointment to the post of head of the new government."

The ruling People's Party of Mongolia on Tuesday chose acting Deputy Prime Minister Khurelsukh Ukhnaa as candidate for new prime minister.

Earlier this month, lawmakers demanded that former Prime Minister Jargaltulga Erdenebat resign for allegedly violating parliamentary procedures through the granting of contracts worth the equivalent of 328 million U.S. dollars to companies linked to three cabinet members.
