Morocco's king congratulates Germany's Merkel on re-election

RABAT, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Tuesday congratulated Angela Merkel for re-election as chancellor of Germany, following her party's victory in parliamentary elections.

In a cable sent to Merkel, the king expressed "heartfelt congratulations and sincere wishes" for the success of Merkel's mission to lead "the friendly German people" towards further progress and prosperity.

He also said he was proud of the solid friendship, mutual esteem and fruitful cooperation between Morocco and Germany, reaffirming his strong determination to work with Merkel to raise the level of the bilateral ties.

The conservative union led by Merkel on Sunday defended its commanding role in the Bundestag (German parliament) with 32.5 percent of the votes.
