BRUSSELS, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission and European Union (EU) members on Tuesday agreed to take concrete measures against food fraud during a high-level meeting here.

The Commission said in a statement that 19 measures were agreed in the meeting, regarding to the Fipronil eggs incident.

These measures allow members to exchange views and manage the Fipronil contamination of eggs and egg products with the coordinating efforts of the Commission, said the statement.

Great importance are attached to the lessons learnt from this incident to prevent and detect such incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, the agreed measures emphasize the use of the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) in order to maximise its potentials.

According to the European Parliament, more than 20 EU members have been affected by the scandal so far. Millions of chicken eggs have already been withdrawn from the EU market and all farms where products containing Fipronil could have been used have been blocked from placing their potentially tainted products on the market.
