ATHENS, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras congratulated German Chancellor Angela Merkel on her election victory on Sunday, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.
"Congratulations to Angela Merkel on her victory in the German elections. A democratic Europe with solidarity is today more important and essential than ever," the Greek premier tweeted.
"All of us believe that in Europe we have an obligation, in spite of any differences, to work together to deepen and expand European values," he added.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel won a fourth term Sunday, but now faces the tricky prospect of forming a coalition with two disparate new partners after voters weakened her conservatives and a nationalist, anti-migrant party surged into parliament.
