GHAZNI, Afghanistan, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- A district police chief was killed in a bomb attack in Afghanistan's eastern province of Ghazni on Thursday, a local official said.
"Mir Jan Jafari, acting police chief of Jaghato district, was martyred and one policeman was wounded after a police vehicle was struck with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Jaghato, Thursday morning," Harif Noori, provincial government spokesman, told Xinhua.
A police van was also destroyed by the blast.
Jafari is the third police chief to be victimized by insurgents' attacks in the restive district within the past two months.
He was appointed to the post after former police Chief of Jaghato Ishaq Jalili was killed together with two police officers earlier this month.
Taliban militants fighting the government have been using home-made IEDs to target security forces.
The Taliban-led insurgency has been on the rampage since late April when the Taliban insurgents launched their annual rebel offensive and intensified attacks across the country.
