TRIPOLI, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The head of an Italian parliamentary commission on Tuesday visited Libya's eastern-based government in Tobruk to support its fight against terrorism.

Despite a United Nations (UN)-sponsored peace agreement, Libya remains politically and militarily divided, run by two rival administrations, one in Tobruk and another in Tripoli, which is back by the UN.

The Tobruk-based parliament's media office said that its speaker Agila Saleh has met with Nicola Latorre, head of the Italian Senate's Defense Commission.

The two discussed supporting the Libyan forces against terrorism and cooperation on other issues, the media office said, adding that Latorre also stressed support for the parliament's efforts in solving the Libyan crisis.

Saleh said the parliament "supports any efforts for national dialogue that aims to achieve a true political consensus."
