Hong Kong university collaborates with mainland ride hailing service for smart city building

HONG KONG, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Monday announced that collaboration with Chinese mainland's ride hailing service Didi Chuxing was established to push ahead with the building of smart cities.

The university and Didi Chuxing will cooperate in studying novel technology and innovation of intelligent transportation system. They will also jointly apply for various research and development projects offered by the government, to transform their innovative ideas into products.

Furthermore, the two will work together on the nurturing of talent, academic exchange, start-up incubation projects, and some other areas, so as to explore new mechanisms for the nurturing people and the latest trend of the industry.

Tony Chan, president of the university, said that Didi Chuxing has become a global leader in accumulating big data and technology. The collaboration can enhance the study in intelligent transportation in the big data era, and can help to nurture global talent in innovation and technology.
