NEW DELHI, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- India's Supreme Court Friday issued a notice to the central government and governments of all states over safety of children in schools across the country.
A three-judge bench, headed by India's Chief Justice Dipak Misra, sought the responses of the central and state governments on the issue of implementation of existing safety guidelines for children in schools across the country and gave them three weeks to file the reply.
The court issued the notice in the wake of a public interest litigation plea filed by two women lawyers in the aftermath of the recent brutal murder of a seven-year-old student at a prominent school in Gurgaon on the outskirts of Delhi.
The student of class II was found with his throat slit in the toilet of Ryan International School in Gurgaon last Friday. Police on the same day claimed to have arrested a school bus conductor, who has confessed to killing the boy after trying to sexually assault him.
Though the local police have arrested two senior officials of the school for failing to provide security to students and adhering to security norms of the local government, the parents of the boy has moved to the top court seeking a federal probe into their son's death.
