KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- A suicide car bombing struck a NATO military convoy in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar on Friday, casualties unknown, authorities said.
"The initial findings showed a terrorist exploded an explosive-laden minibus near a NATO-led forces' convoy in Khoshab locality at around midday. We still have no details on causalities. There is fear of possible causalities," a security source told Xinhua anonymously.
Samim Khpalwak, provincial government spokesman, confirmed the incident, saying the attack occurred in Daman district, south of provincial capital Kandahar city.
"The powerful blast occurred near the Kandahar International Airport, where a NATO base is also located. So far, we have no more details, but we will try to get more information," he told Xinhua.
Witnesses said they heard heavy explosion which sent a plume of grey smoke to rise above the scene.
No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack.
In early August, two U.S. soldiers were killed and four others wounded in a similar attack near Kandahar airport for which Taliban militants had claimed responsibility.
