LJUBLJANA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Slovenian government is willing to compensate its fishermen for losses caused directly by the border disputes with Croatia, the country's national media reported on Thursday.
Government representatives expressed the willingness during their meeting with Slovenian fishing fleet captains after their tour in Piran, the Slovenia's port city in the Adriatic Sea, according to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA).
Those Slovenian fishermen, who might see their equipment damaged or income reduced as a direct result of the failure to implement the border arbitration award, are expected to be to provided with governmental compensation, the government representatives was quoted by STA report as saying.
Slovenia has been demanding Croatia to implement an international tribunal ruling made in June this year over a decades-old border dispute between the two countries.
The Hague-based Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) ruled in June that much of an area of contested waters between Slovenia and Croatia should be awarded to Ljubljana, giving Slovenia direct access to international waters.
However, the ruling was rejected by Croatia, which withdrew from the arbitration process in July 2015 by invoking Article 60 of the Vienna Convention, which allows termination of an agreement in case of a grave breach.
