TOKYO, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Tuesday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average's rally overnight set a positive tone with sentiment further bolstered by the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar.
As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 210.84 points, or 1.08 percent, from Monday to 19,756.61.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 14.74 points, or 0.91 percent, to 1,627.00.
Insurance, securities and transportation equipment-related issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes of trade.
