ANKARA, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Archaeologists recently discovered an 8,000-year-old paint workshop at an ancient settlement in northwestern Turkish province of Eskisehir, local media reported Thursday.

Samples of paint in mortars, ground stones and a container were found in a mound called Kanlitas, the Anadolu Agency reported, citing a professor from Anadolu University.

Archaeology research concluded that the mound was used as a paint workshop, with red ocher materials made from mineral sources.

Considered to be the oldest settlement of central-west Anatolian region, the Kanlitas mound was encircled with large retaining walls from west to east.

Archaeology research at this site started in 1989 after its discovery by the local museum.
