PHNOM PENH, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's ongoing harsh anti-corruption campaign has made the public more confident in the Communist Party of China (CPC), and the campaign serves as a "role model" for other countries, Cambodian officials have said.
More than 200 officials and managers at the vice-ministerial level or higher have been investigated since the 18th Communist Party of China National Congress in 2012. The number has tripled that of the 2007 to 2012 period. China's court system concluded 45,000 graft cases implicating 63,000 people in 2016, with the conviction of 35 former officials at the provincial and ministerial level or higher, and 240 at the prefectural level, according to a work report of the Supreme People's Court.
Om Yentieng, chairman of Cambodia's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), said Cambodia hailed the CPC for its solid determination and great will in fighting corruption and praised the Chinese law enforcement authorities for their proper execution of duty in this work.
"We highly appreciate the top Chinese leaders, particularly President Xi Jinping, for their clear policy and stern determination to combat corruption," he told Xinhua. "We always promote this role model in Cambodia."
He said the ACU has sent dozens of its officials to China every year for anti-corruption training courses.
Since 2012, the CPC has carried out an intra-party inspection, and some 277 party organizations have been inspected since then.
Yentieng said the move would further increase transparency, accountability and good governance in the party.
"We support this initiative because this is a preventive measure that makes people not dare to commit corruption," he said.
Cambodia's Secretary of State and Spokesman for the Council of Ministers Phay Siphan said China's anti-corruption campaign was a "role model" for the rest of the world to learn from.
"It's good for economy, administration and social justice," he told Xinhua. "It increases national unity and solidarity. In the meantime, people's confidence in the CPC will be further enhanced."
Sok Eysan, spokesman for the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), attributed the successful efforts of China in fighting corruption to the stern commitment made by the Chinese leadership.
"This is a role model and good experience for countries in the world," he told Xinhua. "People do not need corrupt officials, so China's fight against corruption goes with the people's wish and, for sure, will gain stronger support from the people."
