CAIRO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian army killed six militants in North Sinai Province on Friday, a military spokesman said.
Army troops attacked hideouts of the militants, killing six of them and wounding four others, military Spokesman Tamer al-Refaay said in a statement.
Meanwhile, three weapon depots, 12 hideouts, seven vehicles and a tunnel were destroyed in the raid, the spokesman added.
Egypt has been battling a growing wave of terror activities that have killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers since the military toppled former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against his one-year rule and his outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.
Terror attacks in Egypt used to be centered in North Sinai before spreading nationwide, with most of them claimed by a Sinai-based group loyal to the Islamic State.
The Egyptian military and police have so far killed hundreds of militants and arrested a similar number of suspects as part of the country's war on terror.
