ANKARA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The number of private security personnel in Turkey has reached 284,399 recently, rising by 92 percent over the past six years, local daily Hurriyet reported Thursday.

As of July 24, a total of 284,399 private security personnel, including those armed and unarmed, are actively working in the sector, the report said, citing figures from the Interior Ministry.

After a sharp increase in the past six years, private security sector has become the second biggest security force in Turkey, after the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), even outnumbering the Interior Ministry's General Directorate of Security, the report said.

After a series of deadly terror attacks and coup attempt last year, a widespread unease among public, to some degree, has stimulated the demands for private security guards across the country.
