DOHA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Qatar's foreign ministry has announced that its ambassador to Iran will return to continue its diplomatic duties, QNA reported Thursday.
In an official statement by the Qatari foreign ministry, the country said it had decided to return its ambassador to Iran and expressed its aspiration to strengthen bilateral ties with Iran in all fields.
The statement did not specify the time of the ambassador's return to Iran.
Qatar has withdrawn its ambassador from Iran in January 2016, after Saudi Arabia cut ties with Iran accusing the latter of failing to protect its embassy in Tehran and consulate in Mashahd against demonstrators who had ransacked them.
Iran has helped Qatar secure its food and water supplies through allowing Qatari national carrier to use its airspace, after Saudi, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Bahrain cut ties with Doha in June.
The four Arab countries accused Doha of being close to arch-foe Iran and supporting terrorism, while Qatar strongly denies the allegations.
