LONDON, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- British stocks closed flat on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.01 percent, or 0.91 points, to close at 7,382.65 points.
Provident Financial, a British sub-prime lender, soared 12.13 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Antofagasta and Rio Tinto increased by 2.31 percent and 2.13 percent, respectively.
WPP, a multinational advertising and public relations company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 10.92 percent.
