JERUSALEM, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Israel's foreign ministry on Monday condemned the deadly knife attack in Finland, expressing "shock" at the Friday assault.

"The Israeli government expresses its shock and strongly condemns the terrorist attack in the city of Turku last Friday," read a statement released by the foreign ministry.

The ministry said that "Israel expresses its solidarity with the people of Finland," and offered condolences to the families of those killed and wished for "a speedy recovery to the injured."

The stabbings mounted by an 18-year-old Moroccan on Friday afternoon at two squares in Turku left two Finnish women dead and eight others wounded.

The attacker, Abderrahman Mechkah, was an asylum seeker who entered Finland in 2016. He was still waiting for his final decision before he committed the crime.
