VIENTIANE, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Lao men's and women's sepak takraw teams are confident of winning numerous medals at the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia during August 19-31, local media reported Thursday.
The Lao men's and women's teams were put through their paces at a Thai training camp for one month before returning to Lao capital Vientiane two weeks ago to prepare under head coach Chanday Phiathep.
The sepak takraw team comprises the men's singles with four players, men's doubles and men's teams with six players while six women players will compete at the SEA Games. The men players are especially expected to be among the medalists in each event, however they may find the gold medals hard to come by at the 29th games.
The Lao players are fit and ready with plenty of experience at international events, coach Chanday was quoted by Lao state-run media Vientiane Times as saying.
Laos recently won a bronze medal in the women's team event in Division 1 at the 31st Sepak Takraw World Championship in Bangkok, Thailand last October. At the fifth Asian Beach Games in Vietnam last year, Laos won one silver and two bronze medals in sepak takraw events. Enditem
