OTTAWA, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A smoldering fire at Toronto's landmark Canadian National Tower, which broke out around 4 a.m. (0800 GMT) Wednesday, has been put out, according to Canadian television network CTV.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire isn't clear.
The tower management turned off power to the antenna mast which is responsible for broadcasting more than 30 television and FM radio signals across southern Ontario before Toronto firefighters extinguished the fire.
The tower operating office said there was no threat to public safety and the tower structure and the tower will be opening to the public Wednesday once the Toronto fire department gives the green light.
The Canadian National Tower is a concrete communications and observation tower in downtown Toronto that is more than 550 meters high. It held the record for the world's tallest free-standing structure until 2007.
